  • Meeting called to order at 7:03PM
  • Welcome and Introductions
    • Harley introduced board members present and thanks everyone for coming
  • Bill Latest Crime Information
    • City of Hawthorne has not reported for August 2015
    • Month of July through September year-to-date (also available via email)
    • Wiseburn’s August + September Crime report included graffiti/vandalism, petty theft, aggravated assault (family member)
    • Big problem with unlocked cars (Bill reminded group to lock cares)
    • Sheriff scam – individuals claiming to be Sheriff investigating jury
    • Coffee with a Cop 10-11AM 15606 Hawthorne Blvd.,
      • McDonald’s  – same Sheriff deputes cover Wiseburn
    • Question by member – Could these burglaries be helped by video surveillance cameras?
      • Yes it could but there are still cases where the suspect is never caught though clearly captured on video.  Sometimes perpetrators even break the equipment.
      • Whatever makes members feel comfortable and that helps sleep at night
    • Several Stories related to the recent burglaries were shared and questions posed for law enforcement
  • Walking Path Update –
    • Dave Barry – LA Conservation Corps Program Manager – organization uses youth to establish parks and walking trails
    • Dave will be onsite everyday or Joe who is the construction manager
    • Current status: good news – August 29, 2015 final construction drawing approved by County of LA and Caltrans, no further changes until/unless issues are discovered in the field
    • What’s next? Permits will be applied for and secured to start demolition.  Supervisor’s office has been fantastic
      • Approximately 3 weeks until demolition beings, realistically we will see construction fence will go up
    • Q&A by members
      • Any ideas on the total lapse due to rain or if they will work thru the rain?
        • 9 month demo and construction + 3 months observation period
      • Will lighting be completed in the 9 month period?
        • Yes, this project was well planned includes solar lighting, security lighting, 5-6 nodes for seating or gathering areas & exercise equipment on North and South ends
      • Will there be any tree removal?
        • There is not tree removal planned.  The walk-through path will likely travel around the existing landscape
      • What is the timeline, final completion date and who do we hold accountable?
        • Would like to have a lunch in about a month to go over over the plans, – Dave will send the JPEG to Wiseburn Watch leadership
        • Groundbreaking ceremony is being planned @ 1 month info demolition having a community work day
      • Will there be congestion on La Cienega from equipment?
        • Not much, some for equipment delivery and some for asphalt demo
      • What are the work hours?
        • We will from M-F 7am at the earliest they stagger their work to accommodate residents typically done by 4pm
      • What is the full length of the walking path?
        • Between 4-8 ft wide and approximately 8 feet beyond the current chain linked fence
      • How tall will the shrubbery be?
        • Only tall plans will be behind the fence except a few trees
  • Break for Law Enforcement
    • Parking on the lawn?  What is the law?
      • 1564.271 A person shall not …. except non-commercial vehicle in driveway
      • CHP – car can be impounded
    • For street sweeping the there is not other parking generally our Sheriff’s dept overlooks you blocking your own driveway
      • Signal where McDonald’s/Carl’s Jr. still enforcing photo tickets – belongs City of Hawthorne
    • What can you do at a neighbor that parks across two space on the block?
      • Nothing per law enforcement
    • Businesses parking on residential street legality of this
      • Bill would like certain areas of residential parking only – Inglewood to Shoup but currently can park any vehicle anywhere
    • Horns – are train horns legal?
      • No they are not legal, you can report license make/model to law enforcement
    • What can we do about El Segundo between Ocean Gate and 405 Freeway cars parked during no parking times 3:30/4-6PM
      • Get the license plate, take a picture and let the Hawthorne Police know – they will pass it onto Sheriff
  • Back to Walking Path
    • Sending out flyers 1/4 to 1/2 mile radius
      • Any plans for plans for signage/sponsorship opportunity
        • Not currently
      • Are they going to add a cross walk?
        • Not currently in the plan but these types of project/improvements are begun, they add necessary changes
  • Mary Jones – Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas’ office
    • Purposely chose LAC C for this project just did Gardena Willows and Carly Cartona is  on top of the Wiseburn walking path.  His office is fully on top of the project

  • National Night Out  – recap
    • Total income $1180.88
    • Expenses $856.03
    • Net Income $324.03
    • First year that we didn’t charge for food/drinks
    • Had several donations in kind – not included above
    • Trying to get more residents certified in our area – Del Aire
      • Oct 17 exercise at MB STudios 10-2PM
        • People will need to play victims
  • Red Cross Blood drive
    • 10/22 at Wiseburn Library 2-8PM
      • Working with Holly Glen Homeowners Association
      • Blood drive bus coming out
      • Can sign-up through the link or hard-copy sing-up
      • 2 tickets to Laugh Factory to make an annual event
  • Orphan Block Update
    • CEQA study is in process (California Environmental Quality Act)
    • They are looking at traffic
    • Bill – County Commission approved
      • Other issues has to do with assessed valuation
      • 1 year in August
      • Commercial only went up a small amount
      • $109 M now  – the residential trading of Lawndale’s residential property for commercial property owned by WUSD
  • Open Forum
    • We finally have temporary librarian at Wiseburn Library – Jennifer (Barbara on leave)
    • Programs
      • Call for friends of the Library may move it to the Wiseburn Library
        • 2nd Wed @ 7PM currently at Hawthorne Library – need to raise funds
        • Halloween trick or treat bags
        • Parent/Child workshop Fridays 10:30-11:45am
          • reaching out to stay at home parents
        • Bookmark contest
  • Questions for Mary
    • Stop sign at Shoup and 134th Pl has been approved – no sure what follow-up approval is needed
    • Really need a stop sign at 142nd
    • Crosswalk doesn’t work right – 13th and La Cienega
      • May not broken  and just needs  reset
